Working Circle
Working circle is now well established and has between 5 and 10 people show up every time. We do a variety of things, so check the calendar to see if you're interested. Below are descriptions of a couple of our recent circles, others can be found on the news page. If you are new you should read our FAQ first.
Tarot
"We held our first class on Tarot and it was a great success! We spent about two hours with Geraldine Amaral, a Tarot instructor learning about the cards and how to read them. We held a followup class in October to practice our new skills. I've uploaded Kim Carr's introduction to the Major Arcana. Its in PDF format. This provides a good basic overview. You can also find much information on Tarot on the Sacred Source Tarot archive located here.
Runes
"We also held a workshop on runes, featuring Beth the Rune Goddess. Beth has been reading the Runes and teaching classes for many years. We learned the basics of Rune casting and meanings of the Elder Futhark"
Animal Teachers
In March, Our guest teacher was Virginia Carper who led a session on "Finding Your Animal Teachers." The class focused on finding and working with our teachers in the animal world, and what lessons our totem and shadow animals can teach us."
What is Working Circle?
Working circle is a MoonFire group that focuses on learning and doing in a less formal, more intimate, setting than the third Sunday rituals. We seek to learn from each other, but, more importantly, we seek to develop a group whose practice helps everyone along their spiritual paths.
When is Working Circle?
Working Circle meets the second Wednesday of the month at the UU Church at 7:30pm. Check the board for locations.
Who should come?
As with all MoonFire activities, participation is open to anyone who is interested. We do, however, recommend that you attend at least one third Sunday ritual first so we can get to know each other. If you have only limited experience on the Pagan path we would definitely recommend coming to a third Sunday ritual to find out what we're all about first.
What are you going to be doing?
Activities will vary from month to month, recent suggestions include Tarot work, scrying, runes, rituals, offerings and sacrifices, finding a spirit animal (totem), Faeries and Nature spirits, candle magic, and other topics of general interest. We may also work with the Penczak books (Inner/Outer/Shamanic Temples of Witchcraft) though that has not been decided at this time. We may also have paid outside experts come in an teach or mentor us on specific topics. As with all MoonFire activities, Working Circle is member led, so our members interests and abilities guide us.
How will we know what you will be doing?
Working Circle events will be listed on the calendar page along with everything else. Unlike the 101 class this page will not list upcoming events.
Where can I learn about past events?
You can obtain handouts on this page, or read write-ups on our newsletter page.
Is this the same as the old Working Circle, or the 101 class?
No in both cases. This incarnation of Working Circle grew out of a desire to continue onward after the Paganism 101 class. However, unlike previous working circles this one will be a group magical/ritual experience more than a class/lecture experience. Classes may have some orienting material at the beginning so you will know what and why you are doing, and you may have some pre/post class homework, but the focus will be on doing.
